Personal
Frank Hendry was born in Birkenhead before moving to Liverpool with his family. He served as a World War II glider pilot before moving on to become a journalist and a teacher in art and history for 20 years. His studies lead him to read History at Trinity College and teach at Blue Coat Grammar School in Liverpool as well as schools in St Helens.
Influences
His major influences came from his visits to Florence and this inspired him to put brush to canvas as well as his early years as an auxiliary fireman and this is reflected in some of his early art works. On his return to Liverpool he visited Jacksons Art Supplies where he gained advise and obtained his art supplies.
Inspired by a post card, he went on to paint the River Arno and the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, before moving on to the Liverpool skyline. His love for the Liverpool skyline developed when he travelled to the Dock Road as a child. He has been quoted in saying that ‘its the best scenery in England’.
His Art Career
His artwork has featured in the Houses of Parliament as well as his European works which were display at the Static gallery and Blue Coat Chambers. He’s also hosted a number of single art exhibitions with his most famous being an art exhibition for the victims of the Hillsborough Disaster which lead to a reported £18,000 being raised.
